Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an idea that has been swarming around for ages now but only recently has it been turned into reality. AI is being used in almost everything around us these days. From phones and cars to medicine and earth revitalization, AI made itself a necessity in our daily lives and it just continues to grow. Until when? Will we come to a point where AI technology will replace humans?
What is Artificial Intelligence?
As its name suggests, AI is made to mimic human intelligence. It is made to be on a level of human decision-making and problem-solving capabilities, being able to process large amounts of data and solve complex algorithms quickly and accurately. It is currently used for many major fields like the marketing field, medical field, good-producing field, and many more.
How is Microsoft contributing to evolving AI?
AI is ever-evolving as it is sought after by many different sectors. Many think AI is the future of not only the world of industrial production and machinery but also the world as a whole. Companies like Microsoft use AI in ways no one had previously thought were possible. For example, their initiative called “AI for Earth” is an innovative program that aims to merge AI with Earth sustainability. With Imazon which uses AI and Microsoft Azure services to prototype deforestation risk and prevent future losses, Microsoft is aiming to expand the uses of AI for the good of Earth. In addition to ThermaFY which develops software that can analyze heat patterns by pairing thermal cameras with machine learning that is giving human beings new and vital ways to use AI.
Moreover, Microsoft has further enhanced the uses of AI to expand to the medical field with their initiative ‘AI for Health’. It focuses on improving the health of people and communities worldwide. Not to mention AI for Humanitarian Action, Ai for Cultural Heritage, and much more that Microsoft has launched.
Does This Mean AI Can Replace Humans?
In an abundance of cases, that is already happening. For example, when a factory worker is no longer employed because smart machines have taken his place or when a person relies on something else to think for him which is the case for smartphones and such. In these cases, yes, AI is replacing humans in a way.
But does this mean we can give up on human intelligence to depend on AI instead? Absolutely not. AI is human-made, human-developed, and human-sustained. AI wouldn’t exist without human intelligence. In addition, AI lacks soft human skills and creativity. AI just does as it is programmed, as it is instructed—no room for creativity, unlike its human counterpart who is creative and has unique soft skills.
Moreover, AI also lacks the intuition human beings possess so, even though it is less likely to make mistakes in one area, it is more likely to make mistakes in another. One should just decide which mistakes cost less to determine which route they would like to go, AI or human intelligence.
AI has made itself essential in our daily lives but that doesn’t mean it can replace humans entirely because nothing can completely mimic human intelligence in its uniqueness, innovation, and creativity.
